The Dilemma of Principles

Imagine you are someone who strongly believes in fighting against corruption. You have always stood against giving or accepting bribes. One day, your colleague approaches you with a request for money. After some discussion, you learn that your colleague needs the money to help his son, who is facing a case filed by the police. Shockingly, the police are demanding money to drop the charges.

Now you find yourself caught in a difficult situation. On one hand, you have your principles against corruption, which have guided your actions throughout your life. On the other hand, your colleague's son is in trouble, and providing the money would enable him to bribe the police and possibly resolve the case.

Should you stick to your principles and refuse to give the money, knowing that it will be used for bribery? Or should you prioritize helping your colleague's son, even if it means indirectly supporting corrupt practices?

What would you do in this situation?
